Utilising the unique properties of clear acrylic, 01 Pendant appears almost completely hollow, with no visible light source. With the bulb completely concealed, the pendant produces no glare, with illumination instead created from a seamless ring of light on the rim of the lens.
A combination of threads and friction fittings provide the ability for complete disassembly of 01.
Development
An early inspiration board exploring how the contrast between light and shadows.
Tolerances were critical to ensuring this project's success. Custom threads were designed to allow for easy user disassembly. For example: when the LED bulb may need to be replaced.
Card model prototypes and 3D printed components were used to develop the internal structure. 3D printing was crucial to the development of the pendant as it allowed for the high degree of accuracy required to facilitate the intricate assembly.
